DIY Hallway Renovation: Front Door Hallway Goes From Dark & Dingy To Light & Bright In This Boho Chic Remodel
Hey everyone! We finished renovating our front door hallway this week, and I have some photos to share. This DIY hallway renovation consisted of ripping out and putting in new floors, putting up new walls, new doors, new baseboards, new electrical, and lots of paint. Check out the details below.

DIY Hallway Renovation Before:
This is what the front hall looked like when we bought it earlier this year. The previous owner had left these odd shelf units, which really ate up the already small space. They were the first thing to go!
The walls were not only a drab shade of murky blue, but they were also textured. We wanted smooth modern walls instead, so we began the BIG job of drywalling and sanding the walls over and over again until they were smooth. While I got to work drywalling and fixing the walls with my Aunt, my husband Nick began pulling out the dated square tile floor. We then ripped out the orange vinyl floor that was covering the rest of the space.
Then it was time to put in the new floor. Nick and my cousin helped lay the new dark walnut colored floorboards, while I painted the walls a new shade of greige, and the front door a striking black. We took out the old beat up bedroom and bathroom doors and replaced them with nice new white shaker doors and matte black door knobs.
DIY Hallway Renovation After:
For the decor, I kept it simple and clutter-free. I chose a colorful Aztec Runner and a Bamboo Bench and added in a small cabinet that I found at my mom’s farm. The cabinet had been outside for years but was good as new once I gave it a coat of black spray paint.
Nick’s parents happened to be in town visiting while we were working on this area of the apartment, and his Dad was kind enough to update all of the electrical for us, and change out the old light switches and wall plates for new modern ones.
What Was Done:
New floors – New Drywall Walls – New Paint – New Bathroom & Bedroom Shaker Doors – New Baseboards -New Matte Black Door Knobs – Painted Apartment Door Black – Updated Electrical – Added New Light Switches & Wall Plates
The octagon mirror on the wall actually came with the apartment. It had been the bathroom mirror from the previous owner, I made sure to save it when we did the bathroom renovation. I took the 80s frame off of it, gave it a good cleaning and hung it up with mirror clips.
I am very happy with how the DIY Hallway Renovation turned out! It is light, bright and minimal.
